Sir
Adam
Beck
1857-1925

Sir Adam Beck had a nickname, The Hydro Knight, because he had a plan to provide all of Ontario with publicly owned, inexpensive hydro.

Beck also managed to get elected mayor of London three times and eventually he was elected to the provincial government. Sir Adam Beck had a beautiful home on Richmond Street called Headley House and a famous London high school (Sir Adam Beck Collegiate Institute) was named after him in 1926.

Baden Ontario, was the birthplace of Adam on June 20, 1857.  He was the son of Jacob and Charlotte (Hespeler).   In 1884, he moved to London, Ontario and built a box factory.  While there is much that could be written, Sir Adam Beck is noted for his vision and work with the Hydro Electric Power Commission (1906), the London Water Works (1910) and the Sanitorium (1936) for people with tuberculosis.

Beck was knighted by King George.
