London East

London East was an actual town, east of Adelaide Street. In its earlier days, London East was the location of oil refineries, factories and railway yards, the roundhouse and car shops. A car shop was where trains got repaired.

The corner of Adelaide and Dundas used to be know as Lilley's Corners because Charles Lilley was the post master and owned the general store on that corner. If you look up at the rooftop of the building on the southeast corner, you can still see the words "Lilley's Corner".
