In 1898, Constable Michael Toohey was shot by a tramp named Marion (Peg-leg) Brown. Brown escaped but was eventually caught and returned to London for a widely publicized trial. The murder conviction led to a controversial hanging in 1899.Resources about in Jack Sharp's Archives:
