Harriet Anne Boomer wanted to help people so she organized the first branch of the Red Cross Society in London, Ontario. Harriet also made the time to open the London Convalescent Home and with her friend, Lady Aberdeen, she started the National Council of Women. She began the Local Council of Women in London, in 1893.
Her maiden name was Harriet Anne Mills of Somerset, England. Her father was Thomas Millken Mills and her mother's name was Anne Benton. She first came to Canada in 1856 when her mother was asked to teach school in Red River, Manitoba.
She was very dedicated to improving the status of women.
