Battle
1903-1994Professor Helen Irene Battle was a lifelong resident of London, Ontario. Dr. Battle was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus after serving the University of Western Ontario (in the Zoology Department) for over fifty years. She was the first woman in Canada to earn a doctorate in marine biology. She thought up the idea of using fish eggs to study the effects of cancer causing substances on cell growth.
